Our Love Of Racing

November 30, 2008 by morrisonhenry2

There’s something about our human nature that enjoys being competitive. It is built within us and almost mimics primitive behavior. We seem to have this inner desire to be the “top dog” — doing things quicker and smarter. It is sort of like self-preservation. We desire to go the distance through all hardships and never stop.

This nature is very profound in athletes but we all have it to some degree. We are naturally competitive and sometimes even with ourselves.

In sports, we usually always are supportive of a person or team even if we don’t like sports or never participate in them. Sports have been around for about as long as mankind. And, we always want to be winners.

It’s funny to see people who are typically quiet and in self-control go crazy and lose it at the stock car races. We typically have no control over it. Even the most timid of us will cheer the success of those who are able to run, ski, kayak, swim, row, guide horses, or cycle faster than we are able to. We seem to still want to be the strongest, healthiest, and quickest. And, if we cannot be that then we love to support those who can be.

It is all psychological really. It gives us a good feeling inside. It’s like “virtual racing” or “virtual challenge.”

We are addicted to this feeling of wanting to be the winner in the various “races” of life. We are not exactly concerned as to why we feel this way but we do nonetheless. We just want to be the fastest.

We love to be winners and everyone loves a winner. Being winners makes us feel better about ourselves. Even if we are bystanders to a race and contribute no input we are still happy just being part of it. We even feel as if we are part of the team too.

In order to race effectively, we have to properly train and direct our inner feelings of anxiety properly. This must be done even before the start of the race. The feelings of anxiety produce a positive force that will have an effect on the competitive part of our brains.

We need the anxiety in order to maintain a racing state of mind. If we did not have anxiety then we would find it hard to get motivated to win. It would not be “exciting” enough for us.

The person in the stands watching also helps to increase the energy level in the racing environment. Without the energy level or charisma, there would be no purpose to watching the race and we certainly would be apathetic to who will win or lose. It’s all in the preparation and the competition. We describe it with phrases like “getting into the zone,” “going with the flow” and keeping up momentum. We always want to be mobilized, ready, have a vision of our victory to come.

We all must have goals in order to accomplish anything in life. We need set them, practice them, and strive to reach them on a consistent basis.

For all of us, there is nothing to compare to winning. Even if we don’t win, we love the thrill of the game. We love to watch the horse races with the jockeys speeding around the track on sleek, well-built horses. And lastly, we are thrilled to pull for others because we love to see them be winners too.

And it’s not just racing. More than likely the swimming teams, track star fans, and downhill skiing racers would totally understand competition too.

Orange Jellyfishes: Palau’s Mystical Creatures

November 30, 2008 by morrisonhenry2

Mention ‘Palau’ to an ordinary individual and most probably he or she will mention of an island in the Pacific Ocean. Mention the same word to scuba divers and adventurers and you will get mountains of metaphors and similes and personifications. All of them bringing Palau into good light.
And who could blame them? One can bask in Palau’s glory with or without the scuba diving equipment. Palau has some of the world’s finest beaches and diving spots. The scenes under the waters of Palau offers divers and snorkel swimmers the beauty no one can find elsewhere. The corals, the fishes, the ecology of that makes Palau’s underwater scenes are truly a sight to behold.
But if you think that Palau’s magic can be found on the ocean, then clearly. You do not know Palau. There’s more to Palau than diving spots and fine beaches and World War II shipwrecks (yeah, they have sunken battle cruisers, destroyers, fighter planes and other war vessels from the Second World War scuttled and shot down in their waters). In the middle of the islands are saltwater lakes. How these lakes came to be are beyond me. Leave the prying to scientists and the native storytellers. But it is not the lake that holds the surprise. The appropriate question should be, “what’s on the lake?”
Straightforward answer, jellyfishes. Tons of jellyfishes. And not the ordinary, poisonous kind of jellyfishes. Orange jellyfishes. The non-stinging kind. And if these creatures does not freak you out, then jump it on to the lake and swim in their midst. People who have experienced swimming among these mystical lake creatures have one common thing to say. Being in that lake seems to take them to another place. Some say that swimming in the lake and sharing the waters with its creatures have given the calm and inner peace they could not find or get from someone or somewhere.
So the next time you think you need to be at ease with yourself, need to get away for a while, or just want a worthwhile vacation, then try Palau. Who knows, an orange jellyfish might touch on the inside.

Online Golf Equipment Reviews Give Indispensable Advice

November 30, 2008 by morrisonhenry2

I hate trial and error when it comes to spending money. I much prefer unbiased golf equipment reviews to make my purchasing decisions. I’ve even been known to whip out my iPhone and use its web browser to look up a product review while I was in a pro shop. This has often saved me from wasting money on a product that wasn’t right for me.

But where do you look and how can you tell what’s biased and what’s unbiased? And where to find a good site? Things have changed over the past 15 years. Back then, email was a productivity tool and not an exercise in frustration with all the spam. Likewise, websites gave you actual information whereas today half of them are a canned paragraph of useless text and a barrage of obnoxious ads.

My ideal golf website is created and run by a true golfaholic. Somehow who knows the game inside out, yet also knows how to write and run a website. The site would explain the game of golf, describe all the equipment needed for golf, contain tips and resources on how to improve your game, and so on. It’d include factual information about the game, historic tidbits, as well as plenty of straightforward reviews of golf clubs, golf shows, and golf carts. I want to learn why today’s golf balls go farther and why they are so much easier to control. And I want to know, how in experts’ unbiased opinion, balls from Maxfli, Titleist, Nike, Callaway and others differ.

Yes, I know; you can read about all this in magazines and there certainly are enough golf commercials and ads out there. But just knowing that leading golfers uses Ogio or Burton golf bags or some advanced Ping hybrid doesn’t help me much. I am not Tiger Woods or Ernie Els. I just want to know how well golf bags, golf carts, golf shoes or golf club work for me. I don’t need the hype. I just want the facts.

To give you one example of what I am looking for. I do believe in training aids. I am not a golfing natural and I need all the help I can get. But I also don’t want to waste money on stuff that doesn’t work. So why should I not benefit from the knowledge and expertise of someone who has tried it all? For example, I had no idea how the LeaderBoard Golf Trainer worked. But I found a detailed description on a golf site and now I know all about it. That doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll buy it, but now I know what it is.

Another technology I’ve become interested in is golf GPS. You can buy those at discount stores, but I wanted to know how they work and where they fit into my game. Once again, an online golf equipment review website came to the rescue. It’s just invaluable to have an expert describes a technology, how it can help you, and then point you in the right direction.

Do sites like the ones I described above have to completely non-commercial? I don’t think so. Everyone deserves fair compensation for their work and if a really good golf equipment review site has links to stores and sites the author has had good experiences with, that’s fine with me. I’d rather buy from a place that comes highly recommended.

Online Survey: Gamers Prefer Roulette

November 30, 2008 by morrisonhenry2

Out of a survey conducted by Gambling Portal, 64% of all gamers prefer to play roulette and not poker, blackjack or even slots. Why?

One of the truly worthy games to play at a casino is roulette. It is not just the spinning of the wheel that gives it its class, but the fact that roulette is a game for true champions. Amateurs steer away from roulette leaving it only to the true gaming enthusiasts.

1) Excitement:
Gamers state that no other game they have played can match the thrill they feel after they have placed their individual bets and the wheel starts to spin and ball flies and jumps from one slot to another. They say that your heart jumps each time the ball collides with the wheel..

2) Simplicity:
In comparison to other games, roulette is simple to learn and simple to play. All you have to do is guess where the ball will come to rest when the wheel stops spinning. Even placing your bet is simple. You can either bet on a number, a row, a couple of rows, a column, a row of columns, a colour: black or red or even on odd or even numbers. To do this you do not need to memorize different hand systems like in poker, or calculate whether they will reach twenty-one like in blackjack. You pick a number or a section of numbers and if ball rests on the numbers you picked, you win.

3) Availability of Game Tables:
Unlike other table games where you sometimes have to wait for hours till a seat opens up for you, roulette table seat up to seven or nine players. There are even some larger tables that seat up to ten. In addition, since roulette is a fast action game, players rotate more often than say at a Texas Holdem match.

4) The Croupier:
Unlike other game tables, at roulette the croupier is an active component of the game. When they state out aloud, No More Bets, everyone sits back and waits. The croupier spins the wheel and he waits along with everyone else for the ball to roll down into the inside track and rest on a particular colour and number. Then, the croupier announces the number and hands out the winnings.

5) Coloured Chips:
To make it easier for you to track your chips amidst all the other chips, your chips are of a different colour than all the rest of the players. There is no other game that allows you this option. This means that you can track your chips super easily even if they are at the other end of the table.

6) No Cheating:
People try and cheat at all games. But in roulette, no one is allowed to keep his hands over the table until the croupier finishes handing out all the money won. Even the croupier himself keeps his hands away and uses a long stick to distribute the chips.

Online Scams: How To Avoid Getting Fooled

November 30, 2008 by morrisonhenry2

Beware of the three ways of getting fooled into giving up your money through seemingly innocent money-making schemes. Scams are all around us and it can be found in every single area of life, but more so in such areas where the risk is greater such as when dealing with credit cards, bank accounts and other activities which involve sending or receiving money online.

The Bank/Credit Card Email Scam:
If you get an email asking you to sign up to your bank account or credit card through the email because your privacy is under danger or just to receive a free gift or something: BEWARE! Do not sign up through the internet address provided in the email. If the email does make you anxious, go to the bank or credit card site using the address you know already or through searching the search engines.
How Does This Scam Work?
The senders of the email know that only a very few will sign up but that is all they need. When you signed up to the bogus internet address, they got your user and password. Now its time for them to party!

The Missing Millionaire Scam:
If you receive an email saying that they represent a dead or missing former ruler, high-ranking official or businessman from an African, Gulf or even Russian: BEWARE! They offer you a chance to earn anything between one to five percent of ten to fifty million. And for your co-operation only. Don’t get sucked into this, for though they speak of giving you money, they will receive cash and from your account.
How Does This Scam Work?
They will ask you for your bank details in order to transfer the cash and then they will use that to transfer a small amount. Now, once you trust them, they will ask you for more personal and secure details because they “need” that to transfer the entire sum in and out of your account. What they won’t tell you is that they will transfer all the money out from your account: theirs and yours.

The Make Money Fast Scam:
This is the most innocent of the lot, but that is also why it is the most dangerous. These are so-called companies that advertise that if you only sign up and use their system, you will mint money. Please do not fall for such schemes. They will pay you some money but then once trust is built, they will fleece your bank account. Remember that quick money scams are the surest and fastest way to lose all your money!

Conclusion:
Whatever you do online, always remember that the internet is not a safe place. Treat it like you would treat any other business venture and bring up your guard. If you play it safe and check out the companies before committing, you will be able to guard yourself against losing money to crooks.

Online Sweepstakes Terminology

November 30, 2008 by morrisonhenry2

Online sweepstakes have become a huge trend all around the world. Not only do sweepstakes offer excitement and fun, but great chances to win big prizes. But, as with any other hobby or passion, entrants should be able to talk the talk to be truly part of the online sweepstakes experience.

There are some must-know terms entrants should be familiar with when entering online sweepstakes. Important terms relating to entries are: 1/H which means one entry per household and 1/H/D is one entry per household per day, 1/H/W means one entry per household per week, 1/H/M means one entry per month and 1/H/Q means one entry per quarter or every three months. 1/P is short for one entry per person. And, as explained above, /D, /W, /M and /Q can be added as time constraints. Another time related sweepstakes term is bi-weekly, which means entrants can enter once every two weeks.

Addy or addie refers to the entrant’s address. Four common used terms are NAZ, NAZDT, NAZH and NAZT. N means the entrant’s name and surname, A means the entrant’s address and Z stands for the entrant’s zip code. The additional DT is short for day telephone, H means home telephone and T means telephone number.

With regards to the contest or online sweepstakes itself, the following terms might be helpful. SD means start date, the official start date of the sweepstakes of contest. Online entry means the method of entering using the internet. WL stands for the winners list and DD for the drawing date, which is the last date of acceptance of entries for online sweepstakes. E/F/A means employees, families and agencies, referring to the eligibility of entrants.

Other commonly used terms in online sweepstakes are WSL and DOB. WSL means while stocks last and DOB is short for date of birth. Another popular term is J/A which stands for judging agency. Most big competitions use judging agencies to regulate their sweepstakes. P/C means prices must be claimed by the given date. If winners do not claim their prizes in a certain period of time, they forfeit their prizes.

When entering online sweepstakes regularly, entrants will soon become familiar with all the terminology regarding sweepstakes. There are many glossaries and websites available where prospective entrants can read more about online sweepstakes and the related terms. It is always a good idea for entrants to ensure they are familiar with the rules and regulations, the terminology and all the other details of contests or online sweepstakes before they enter.

When entrants are familiar with the online sweepstakes terminology, they can enter as many sweepstakes as they can – and of course stand a big chance to win great prizes!

Options for Buying World Series Tickets

November 30, 2008 by morrisonhenry2

It’s that time of the year again – baseball fever is spreading like wildfire, and tickets are selling faster than hotdogs. So, your team is playing, and you have to be there. What are your options for buying World Series tickets before there are none left to buy?

First – the traditional method. Pick up the phone and try to purchase tickets from the team during the scheduled sale period.  The bad news, of course, is that these tickets usually sell out within 30 minutes flat. Solution? If the ticket agency or team provides multiple phone numbers to call, get all your friends and family organized to call as many times as possible across the multiple numbers.
Another way of getting your hands on those precious tickets is to identify those among your network of contacts (friends, family members or coworkers) who are season ticket holders for one of the teams. Season ticket holders usually get an option to buy tickets at the face value price. See, it pays to keep in touch!

Alternately, you can surf the Internet. Log on to the tickets section of the team’s website – but let’s be honest, hoping that the team is going to have tickets on sale is a total shot in the dark.

Besides the team website, other sites, such as Tickets 4 U, offer World Series tickets. This is how it works – season ticket holders who, for whatever reason, are not able to make it to the game, post their tickets for sale on the site. As a result, these sites often sell the best seats in the house. Of course, playoff tickets don’t come cheap. But you can also find tickets for more affordable sections on these sites.

And then there are always the ticket broker websites from where you can purchase tickets. Your ticket may be just a google click away.

A word of caution – please do buy tickets ONLY from reputable agents / brokers / intermediaries. You don’t want to buy a ticket and then not get to see the game because what you bought was a scam ticket (yes it does happen), do you?

So how does reputable translate on the net? In webspace, the site that you are conducting the transaction with should be secure, first of all. Second of all, they should have a past history that vouches for their integrity in dealings with customers. Tip – a seal of approval from the Better Business Bureau, Verisign or other such authorities is a good sign.

Remember – if you buy your World Series tickets well in advance of the game (before opponents are finalized), there is a good chance of getting tickets at better prices.  At this point the demand for tickets will be lower so the chances of finding exactly the seat you want from a site like Tickets 4 U is all the better.

Mommy Second Child

November 28, 2008 by morrisonhenry2

Since she’s been there, done that, what do you get a veteran mom with a new baby?

According to Kids II, one of the fastest-growing infant toy companies in America, selecting baby gifts for second-time-around parents can be as simple as A-B-C.

* A is for age gap. Consider whether the latest bundle of joy is far or close in age to siblings. Moms with two children under 2 might appreciate a second helping of necessities such as monitors, car seats or diaper disposals.

Second babies are a welcome opportunity for duplicates of essentials like bouncers, play gyms or swings. Moms will appreciate not having to move gear from room to room or floor to floor as they move their babies to where their toddler siblings may be playing.

If the age gap is bigger, think about items parents might need for an older child, such as booster chairs, rails or bedding for big boy/girl beds, or perhaps a new convertible car seat.

* B is for better features. To keep up with an evolving market, toy designers and manufacturers often incorporate new features and technologies into their products, providing new twists to classic favorites.

For example, the Bright Starts “Around We Go!” activity station takes play to a new level by incorporating a seat that safely moves around the outside of the table. Named one of Dr. Toy’s Top Ten Toys of 2005 and a recipient of the National Parenting Seal of Approval, this innovative toy features an electric piano, drawing station and removable dishwasher-safe snack tray. Parents love the open design, which provides room for siblings to share in activities.

* C is for clean slate. Hand-me-downs are great for clothes, but not for personal items such as pacifiers, teethers and stroller/car seat toys, which tend to spend more time on the floor than in little hands and mouths.

When buying teethers, make sure they are soft, durable, easy for a baby to hold and easy to clean. Mom will appreciate replacement of much-loved items such as rattles, play keys and toy phones, while baby will enjoy having something fun and new to sink his teeth into.

Also, consider other items that get used over and over, like sleepers, undershirts, hooded towels, burp cloths and washcloths.
